Report: Eagles might cut $51M pass rusher before training camp

The Eagles don’t sit around waiting for bad decisions to fix themselves.

According to a new report from Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox, Philly could be eyeing a surprising roster move this offseason: cutting edge rusher Bryce Huff, just one year after handing him a three-year, $51.1 million contract.

Yup. That Bryce Huff. The one they hyped up as Haason Reddick’s replacement.

Eagles Took a Big Swing — and Might Already Be Backing Off

Let’s rewind. Huff was coming off a breakout year with the Jets, posting 10 sacks and looking like a rising star. Howie Roseman opened the vault to bring him in, hoping to inject life into the pass rush after trading Reddick and watching Brandon Graham inch toward retirement.

Fast forward to now: Huff managed just 2.5 sacks all season, saw his role fluctuate week to week, and now finds himself potentially on the chopping block.

Why? Because the Eagles didn’t stop stacking the edge after signing him. They brought in Josh Uche and Azeez Ojulari this offseason, then doubled down by drafting Antwaun Powell-Ryland.

Translation: Huff might already be the odd man out.

Eagles Face a Tough Decision, But When Has That Ever Stopped Them?

There’s a major snag in the plan, though — cutting Huff would leave Philly with $29.3 million in dead cap. That’s not exactly pocket change, even for a front office as crafty as Howie’s.

Still, this is the same franchise that ate money to move on from Carson Wentz and built a Super Bowl roster two years later. If they think it’s time to cut bait, they’ll do it.

More likely, they’ll try to find a trade partner. But if the market is dry and they’re set on giving those reps to Uche, Ojulari, or Powell-Ryland, they’ll take the financial hit and move on.

It’s ruthless. It’s calculated. It’s vintage Eagles.

And if you’re Bryce Huff, it’s probably a good time to start checking Zillow listings in other NFL cities.
