Pope Leo XIV ‘rejoiced’ after Eagles dominated Chiefs in Super Bowl 59
We all knew the new Pope, Pope Leo XIV, attended Villanova and had ties to the Delaware Valley. What we didn’t know, however, is that apparently he’s a huge Eagles fan.
In a recent story from CBS News, they caught up with Father Joe Farrell, who’s also a Delaware County native, to ask him about Pope Leo’s ties to the region.
While Fr. Farrell said the new Pope isn’t fully committed to the Birds, he did say that he “rejoiced” when the Eagles won Super Bowl LIX.
Pope Leo is a Birds fan, I don’t care what anyone says
Per Farrel, “He was non-committal with the Eagles. He was very happy when the Eagles won the Super Bowl. He rejoiced with those of us from Philly.”
Farrell also mentioned that he did not hear the Pope rip a “Go Birds” during the bowl, but I’m sure that was just him being modest. The Pope holds himself to a higher standard than us Philly scumbags. As long as he rejoiced in the team’s greatness, I can’t really ask for much else.
Would love to get Pope Leo to The Linc this season. Have him in the owner’s box with Jeffrey Lurie and Howie Roseman, show him on the big screen as he sprays the stands with holy water. That’ll really get the crowd going.
