Ranger Suárez shoves, Phillies sweep Rockies to extend win streak to 7-games

A 7-game win streak. A franchise-first season sweep of the Rockies. And a road trip that has the Phillies rolling into Memorial Day weekend like a freight train.

The Phillies finished off their four-game beatdown in Denver on Thursday with a tidy 2-0 win behind another strong outing from Ranger Suárez, who outdueled Germán Márquez to keep Colorado’s historic misery going.

It was The Fightins 11th win in their last 12 road games, and their fourth straight road series victory.

Ranger Suárez worked 6.2 innings of shutout ball, allowing just four hits, striking out six, and navigating around three walks to earn his third win of the year.

Ranger came out after a two-out double and a walk in the seventh, but Orion Kerkering needed just one pitch to get the Phillies back in the dugout. Jordan Romano took it from there, shutting the door in the ninth for his sixth save of the season.

Ranger Suárez today: 6.2 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 6 K, 99 pitches (65 strikes)

Offensively, it was a low-octane day at altitude, but Philly made the most of their chances. Bryce Harper continued his heater with a fourth-inning RBI double to score Bryson Stott, who reached on an error. Max Kepler added insurance in the seventh with a double to drive in Kyle Schwarber after a leadoff walk.

Bryce Harper cannot be stopped

Meanwhile, Germán Márquez once again pitched well and got zero help. He gave up just four hits and two runs (only one earned) over 6.1 innings, striking out five. He’s now 1-7 on the year, and the Rockies’ misery keeps deepening. At 8-42, Colorado now owns the worst 50-game start of the modern era.

Phillies vs Rockies Game Notes:

Brenton Doyle tripled with one out in the second, threatening to give Colorado an early lead. But Suárez shut it down with a groundout and a flyout to keep the game scoreless.

The Phillies went 7-0 against the Rockies this season—the first time in franchise history they’ve swept a season series of at least seven games.

Zack Wheeler (5-1, 2.67 ERA) gets the ball Friday night as the Phillies head to Oakland for a three-game set. Colorado will stay home to host the Yankees, with no starter yet announced.
