Michael Carter-Williams Boxing Debut

Former Sixers Rookie of the Year Michael Carter-Williams wins boxing debut at ‘Broad Street Brawl’

Well, here’s something you don’t see every day — former NBA Rookie of the Year Michael Carter-Williams is now 1-0 as an amateur boxer.

The 6’5” former Sixers point guard stepped into the ring Thursday night at the “Broad Street Brawl” charity event in Manhattan and walked away with a unanimous decision victory in his first-ever fight.

Former Philadelphia 76ers NBA Rookie of the Year Michael Carter-Williams set to launch boxing career

Michael Carter-Williams, who was listed at 190 pounds during his final NBA season in 2022-23 with the Orlando Magic, looked noticeably bulkier in the ring. Add in a 6’7” wingspan and clear height and reach advantages over his opponent, and MCW used those physical tools to control the fight.

Given his frame and athleticism, it’s not a huge surprise he got the W. And while this win didn’t exactly come with the same fanfare as his unforgettable NBA debut — remember that 2013 Sixers opener when rookie MCW dropped 22 points, 7 rebounds, 12 assists, and 9 steals in an upset of the LeBron-led Heat? — a win’s a win.

Michael Carter-Williams’ first game in the NBA was damn near folklore:

After a nine-year NBA career where he averaged 10.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists, Carter-Williams is now adding “undefeated boxer” to the résumé.

No word yet on whether this is a one-off or if he’s looking to keep lacing up the gloves, but if nothing else, it’s a pretty fun second act for a player Philly fans will always remember for that electric start back in 2013.

Who had “Michael Carter-Williams winning boxing matches in 2025” on their bingo card? Not me — but here we are.
