Ahead of today’s series finale against the Brewers, the Phillies announced they’ve recalled RHP Seth Johnson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. To clear a roster spot, José Ruiz was designated for assignment.

Johnson, one of the Phillies’ more intriguing young arms, will wear No. 51 and could be available out of the bullpen this afternoon.
With the pitching staff taking a beating in recent days — capped off by Saturday’s 17-7 loss where Jesús Luzardo got rocked for 12 earned runs — the Phillies needed a fresh arm. While you could debate what arm that should be, Seth Johnson gets the call today at least for the day.
It’s another move in what’s been a revolving door of bullpen options for Philly this season. We’ll see if Johnson can provide a spark today as the Phillies look to avoid the sweep and snap this three-game skid.
