Eagles add speed to WR room with Sam Houston State playmaker
The Eagles just added a new name to the wide receiver mix, and while it’s not a blockbuster, it’s definitely one to keep an eye on.
On Wednesday, Philadelphia signed undrafted rookie Ife Adeyi out of Sam Houston — a guy who quietly earned his shot by standing out as a tryout player during rookie camp.
Standing at 5-foot-10 and weighing 175 pounds, Adeyi isn’t going to wow anyone in a press conference, but his 4.35 speed is legit. The Eagles are dealing with a thin receiver room at OTAs right now — DeVonta Smith is training in Florida, Johnny Wilson’s been MIA, and both Elijah Cooks and Avery Williams are nursing injuries. It’s not surprising that Howie Roseman and the front office are bringing in bodies, but Adeyi isn’t just a camp body. The kid can play.
Eagles’ WR Depth Opens Door for Adeyi
Over six years at Sam Houston, Adeyi racked up 2,312 receiving yards, 19 touchdowns, and another four TDs on the ground. That kind of production paired with elite speed is exactly what you want in a developmental piece. He joins a group of other new additions like Washington’s Giles Jackson and Clemson’s Marcus Tate — both of whom also turned tryout invites into roster spots.
Right now, the Eagles’ “starting” trio in 11 personnel during open sessions has been Jahan Dotson, free-agent pickup Terrace Marshall Jr., and Ainias Smith. A.J. Brown has been present but limited to individual work, and practice-squad standout Danny Gray is making noise early. Still, there’s clearly room for someone like Adeyi to carve out a role if he keeps flashing.
It’s easy to overlook these under-the-radar signings in June, but the Eagles have a history of turning long shots into contributors — and with the current state of the WR room, Adeyi is in the right place at the right time.
Don’t be shocked if the name Ife Adeyi sticks around longer than expected.
