Packers star CB released, should the Eagles pounce?
On Monday morning, the Green Bay Packers released Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander, making him free to sign with any team. And as always, when a high-profile free agent becomes available, the question is: Should the Eagles be interested?
Green Bay Packers superstar gets released
It feels like fans are starting to get genuinely fed up with this kind of content — and I get it. It does get a little exhausting seeing the Eagles linked to every notable free agent who hits the market. But in Jaire Alexander’s case, it actually makes a ton of sense.
He’s 28 years old and, when healthy, widely regarded as one of the best corners in football. The problem? Health. That’s been his Achilles heel the past two seasons. Since 2023, he’s played in just 14 games while dealing with back and ankle injuries.
The Packers reportedly offered him a restructured deal this offseason. He declined, so they cut him. Cold world. The Eagles don’t need Alexander — but he could come at a discount. A one-year, incentive-heavy deal? I’d be all for it.
Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean are locked in at corner, but beyond them, it’s a bit of a question mark. I want Kelee Ringo to be that guy, but it’s tough to say if he’s truly ready to take on a starting role. With minicamp kicking off this week, the coaching staff should get a solid read on where Ringo stands in his development.
If you bring in the former Packers corner, you’re not just taking a flyer on some random vet like Adoree’ Jackson. You’re adding a guy with legitimate superstar upside — someone who, if he stays healthy, could be a real weapon for Vic Fangio’s defense.
By the time minicamp wraps, the team will have a clearer picture of what they’ve got at corner. If it’s not up to par? Call Alexander’s agent and get the former Packers CB to Philly.
