Phillies acquire infield depth from Seattle Mariners, assign Nick Dunn to AA Reading
The Phillies have added some infield depth to the organization, acquiring Nick Dunn from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for cash considerations. The 28-year-old Pennsylvania native will report to Double-A Reading.
Phillies acquire infielder Nick Dunn for cash considerations
Nick Dunn, originally a 5th-round pick by the St. Louis Cardinals back in 2018, has yet to crack a big-league roster but has put together a solid minor league résumé over seven seasons. He owns a career .276 average with 37 home runs in over 2,200 at-bats.
The move adds another steady left-handed bat to the system. Nick Dunn profiles more as a contact-first utility infielder, with experience across second base, shortstop, and third. He doesn’t offer much power, but his consistent bat-to-ball skills and glove versatility make him a useful piece for organizational depth.
This is a bit of a homecoming for Nick Dunn, who hails from Sunbury, PA and played his college ball at Maryland. He’ll now suit up for the Fightin Phils, bringing some local ties to the Reading roster.
While it’s not a blockbuster, it’s a move that gives the Phillies flexibility. With multiple infielders on the MLB roster dealing with injuries or inconsistency, it never hurts to add an experienced hand who knows how to handle pro pitching and can hold down the fort when needed.
