Castellanos hits Grand Slam as Phillies smash Jays, complete the sweep at The Bank
Nick Castellanos turned on an 85 mph hanger in the sixth and sent it into orbit, putting the finishing touches on an 11-4 Phillies win and a full-on sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays.
Citizens Bank Park was rocking on Sunday, and for good reason. The Phillies took care of business in all three games against a team that had just taken a series from them last week. Zack Wheeler was dominant again, Alec Bohm left the yard, Otto Kemp kept raking, and the offense broke things open early and never looked back.
Wheeler Dominates Again
Zack Wheeler looked like the Cy Young front-runner everyone’s been talking about. He fanned nine Jays in six innings and didn’t walk a single batter. The only earned run he allowed came on a couple of soft singles and a sac fly. He struck out the side in both the second and third innings. Just dealing.
He improves to 7-2 with a 2.27 ERA.
Castellanos Delivers the Knockout Punch
The game was already slipping away from Toronto when Castellanos stepped in with the bases juiced in the sixth. He crushed a José Cuas slider to left for his seventh homer of the year, putting Philly up 10-2. His swing is starting to come around at the right time.

Otto Kemp: Not Just a Fill-In
Don’t look now, but Otto Kemp is becoming a real piece for this lineup. Called up when Bryce Harper went down, Kemp had four hits Sunday and is batting .345 with a .931 OPS since his call-up.
Blue Jays Had a Moment, Though
Toronto left fielder Alan Roden made the catch of the game (and maybe the series) in the fifth when he robbed Castellanos of extra bases and left a literal mark on the wall. His eye black smeared onto the padding when he face-planted into it. Respect for hanging on to the ball — and staying in the game after the crash.
Up Next for the Phillies
Phillies head to Miami for a four-game set starting Monday. Rookie Mick Abel gets the ball and will face Sandy Alcantara.
This was a big statement weekend for the Phillies. They’ve won five of six, the rotation is clicking, and the kids are contributing. They’re heating up heading into the dog days.
