The latest updates on Bryce Harper’s wrist continue to be extremely vague
According to the Phillies’ beat, Bryce Harper is doing his “full routine” today but no one can give you a straight answer on when he’s actually going to play baseball again.
The club says he’s progressing and hasn’t ruled out a return this weekend in Atlanta, but if you read between the lines, next week sounds way more likely.
Bryce Harper Injury Update:
This all feels way too familiar.
Phillies fans are starting to get those same vibes we used to get every time the Sixers put out a medical update that said nothing. The kind of update where you finish reading it and somehow know less than when you started.
- I don’t like the updates we’re getting on Bryce Harper’s elbow >>
- Bryce Harper shared a very concerning update on his wrist injury >>
- Harper tests wrist with tee at-bats and throwing, still no timeline for return >>
This whole Harper saga started back when he missed time with an elbow issue. Then, out of nowhere, it was the wrist. And now it’s just…whispers.
No timeline. No specific details. Just the same recycled quote about how he’s “doing everything” and “feels good” which don’t get me wrong, would probably be fine if we hadn’t seen this movie before.
Unfortunately, we have…multiple times.
The concern here is that wrist injuries, especially for power hitters, are sneaky bad.
It also doesn’t help that Harper’s initial elbow injury was the same elbow that’s been bothering him for years at this point but either way, both type of injuries tend to linger and never fully heal without significant time off.
You can feel fine in the cage but lose your swing in real games. If Bryce rushes back too soon, he could be right back on the shelf. Obviously, the Phillies can’t mess around with injured elbows or wrists for Harper, especially when you’re in the middle of a dogfight in the NL East with the Mets.
Bryce Harper might be doing his “full routine” but until he’s back in the lineup and launching baseballs into the second deck, don’t blame Phillies fans for being suspicious.
When the updates start sounding like Sixers press releases, that’s when you know something’s off, right?
Hopefully I’m wrong. Hopefully Bryce is fine. But if he’s not back by next week, it’s fair to start asking the question: what aren’t the Phillies telling us?
