VJ Edgecombe dominates in Summer League debut as Sixers fall to Jazz
Forget the final score for a second, VJ Edgecombe officially arrived Saturday night. The No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft gave Sixers fans their first real taste of what he’s bringing to the table, and let’s just say the early returns are loud.
VJ Edgecombe poured in 28 points, grabbed 10 boards, dished out four assists, and swatted two shots in his Summer League debut against the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City. He looked fast, explosive, and most importantly, in control.
Yeah, the Sixers lost 93-89 to the Jazz, but that’s not what anyone’s talking about today.

The VJ Edgecombe Takeover
VJ Edgecombe literally took over stretches of the game. Whether it was attacking the rim, hitting mid-range pull-ups, or posterizing defenders, the 19-year-old wing looked like the most dynamic player on the floor. The dunk of the night belonged to him too.
VJ Edgecombe vs Ace Bailey
Meanwhile, across the floor was Ace Bailey, the guy many expected Philly to draft before he ghosted them in the pre-draft process. Bailey ended up going No. 5 to Utah, and while his potential is undeniable, Edgecombe outplayed him in every way on Saturday.
VJ Edgecombe:
- 28 PTS
- 10 REB
- 4 AST
- 13-27 FG
Ace Bailey:
- 8 PTS
- 7 REB
- 3-13 FG
Needless to say, the Sixers aren’t losing any sleep over how draft night shook out.
Philly also got a nice debut from second-round pick Johni Broome, who dropped 13 points and added five boards in limited minutes.
The big man from Auburn looked comfortable in the pick-and-roll and wasn’t shy about throwing his weight around in the paint.
Utah’s rookie Walter Clayton Jr., the No. 18 pick and Final Four MVP, added nine points and six assists off the bench for the Jazz in a solid showing.
This game was about VJ Edgecombe.
He looked like a guy ready to play real NBA minutes. And if this is what he’s bringing to the table in Game 1 of Summer League, the ceiling for this kid might be even higher than advertised.
Next up for the Summer Sixers
Two more games in Salt Lake before heading to Vegas.
