Eagles star responds to CJ Gardner-Johnson’s off the rail comments
A few weeks back, CJ Gardner-Johnson took some shots at the Eagles, saying they won’t win another Super Bowl without him. Bold words from a guy who just got traded to the Texans.
But don’t expect anyone in the NovaCare Complex to lose sleep over it — especially not Dallas Goedert.
The Eagles tight end was asked about Gardner-Johnson’s comments during a recent interview with Essentially Sports, and his response was perfectly Philly: blunt, classy, and straight to the point.
Eagles tight end on CJGJ’s comments
“I don’t think so,” Goedert said when asked if CJGJ’s words added any fuel to the fire. “I’ve got a lot of love for Chauncey. He’s an incredible player. He’s passionate. But, it’s just kind of who he is. He’s always saying something.”
That last line hits. “He’s always saying something.” That about sums up the CJGJ experience.
Let’s not forget, Gardner-Johnson was a big part of the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX run. His impact on the field was undeniable. But once the confetti settled, the front office had decisions to make. Trading him to Houston saved cap space and kept the Birds positioned to stay dangerous in 2025.
Still, CJGJ couldn’t resist taking shots on his way out, saying the Eagles wouldn’t sniff another Lombardi without him. Goedert? Unbothered.
“He’s got a lot of belief in himself,” Goedert added. “He was a great player for us in Philadelphia and I wish him all of the best. But, when we play them, I think everybody will think about that and what he said.”
Translation: The locker room heard it. They didn’t forget it. And when Philly meets Houston, they’ll be ready.
Bottom line: Eagles fans don’t need the extra drama. The team just thumped the Chiefs in the Super Bowl and is rolling into the new season with one of the deepest rosters in the league. If Gardner-Johnson wants to stir things up from Texas, that’s on him. Philly’s got bigger things in mind.
And as always, when the time comes to line it up on the field, talk is cheap.
