Eagles star Jalen Carter already drawing Hall of Fame buzz from NFL coaches
The Eagles may have landed more than just a defensive cornerstone in Jalen Carter, they might have drafted a future Hall of Famer.
As Carter heads into his third NFL season, the 24-year-old defensive tackle is already turning heads across the league. ESPN recently ranked him the No. 3 defensive tackle in football, and that’s not just based on potential, he’s earned it. Last season, Carter helped the Eagles win a Super Bowl, picked up All-Pro second-team honors, and made his first Pro Bowl appearance.
But the biggest statement came from a veteran NFL coach, who told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler:
“Young player with elite tools, elite instincts and game-changing play ability. Think the best is yet to come from him if he can keep his life in order. Has Hall of Fame-type ability and instincts.”
That’s about as high of praise as you’ll ever hear for a player this early in his career.
Eagles DT Already Demanding Respect
Carter’s numbers from 2024 — 4.5 sacks, six batted passes, and an 8.8% pass rush win rate — only tell part of the story. His impact goes beyond the stat sheet. He faced double-teams nearly every snap and still found ways to disrupt plays, collapse pockets, and anchor the defensive front. One evaluator put it plainly: he’s a “need-to-see-him-in-person” type of player.
Even future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald said Carter reminded him of himself — another massive endorsement for a player who’s only scratching the surface.
Off-field concerns followed Carter into the 2023 Draft, but in Philadelphia, he’s been all business. He logged nearly 800 snaps last season and proved he could be trusted as a full-time presence on the Eagles defense. With the “life in order” concerns fading and his on-field dominance growing, Carter looks like the next great defensive star to wear midnight green.
The Eagles already had a reputation for building through the trenches, but with Jalen Carter, they may have found a generational talent. If the growth continues, that coach’s Hall of Fame prediction might not sound so bold in a few years.
