Cowboys bettors are setting themselves up for a painful Week 1 reality check
The Cowboys are being overhyped, overvalued, and overbet by a public that clearly didn’t watch the Eagles dismantle Dallas in back-to-back blowouts last season. And yet, as the 2025 NFL season kicks off on Thursday Night Football, gamblers everywhere are lining up to throw their money at America’s annual disappointment.
BetMGM reports that Cowboys +7 is one of the most bet sides in Week 1 — not just in terms of tickets, but also in actual betting handle. They’re also the most bet underdog to win outright at +260. That’s a lot of money riding on a team that gave up 75 points to the Eagles last season and didn’t even look like they belonged on the same field. But sure, go ahead and “sprinkle a unit.”
Cowboys +260? That’s Not Value, It’s Wishful Thinking
There’s a difference between value and delusion, and Cowboys bettors are confusing the two. +260 might look juicy on paper, but there’s a reason the line hasn’t moved off Eagles -7: the books know where the smart money is.
Dak Prescott may be back, but he’s walking into Lincoln Financial Field with more questions than answers. George Pickens could be a star or a sideshow. Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders might as well be labeled “injury-prone and inconsistent.” And Jake Ferguson was mid despite 86 targets last year. Add in Brian Schottenheimer calling plays behind a questionable offensive line, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.
The Eagles Are Locked In. Don’t Let a Number Fool You.
Meanwhile, the Eagles return every meaningful piece on offense not named Mekhi Becton. This isn’t a team sleepwalking into a Super Bowl hangover. This is a team with a chip on its shoulder, opening the season at home against its most hated rival. Lincoln Financial Field is going to be a war zone, and Dallas is walking straight into it like it’s a stroll through Frisco.

Yes, it’s Week 1. Yes, weird things happen. But there’s nothing fluky about what we saw last year. The Eagles dominated both matchups, and unless Prescott learned how to clone Micah Parsons three times over the summer, this one’s going to look familiar.
So go ahead. Chase the number. Ride the underdog. Convince yourself this is the year the Cowboys finally pull it together. Just don’t be surprised when it ends the same way it always does: with Dallas fans whining on social media and Eagles fans counting their winnings on PA and NJ casino apps.
Birds by a million.
