Wednesday afternoon in San Francisco felt different. Not because of the 13-0 final score, not because the Phillies finally avoided a sweep, and not even because the offense exploded for 17 hits. No — it was different because Bryce Harper walked into Oracle Park and reminded the world exactly who he is.
Four extra-base hits. That’s not a typo. A home run and three doubles. It’s the first time in his career he’s done that. And for a guy who’s already on the fast track to Cooperstown, that says something.

He didn’t have any extra base hits since coming back from wrist soreness. Today he has a homer and three doubles.

A major bounce back game as a whole for the Phillies, but for Harper this feels like one of those major springboard moments. And you can really tell from the vibe he gave off in his post game interview.

“I feel great”. – Bryce Harper
That’s it. That’s all I needed to hear. Nothing physical. No soreness. No setbacks. Just vintage Bryce laser-focused on doing what he does best.
If you’ve watched Harper over the years, you know when he speaks like that — calm, clear, unbothered — it’s terrifying for the rest of Major League Baseball. That’s not a guy “hoping” to turn it around. That’s a guy appears to be finding his groove.
Phillies Avoid the Sweep, Hit the Break on a High Note
Let’s not lose sight of the rest of the game. The Phillies — finally — got a stress-free win in a series they looked completely lifeless in. Jesús Luzardo was lights out, the bats came alive, and the bullpen wasn’t needed for once.
They move to 54-39 and head to San Diego for a three-game set before the All-Star Break. Feels like the vibes around this team are in a good place. Thanks in large part to Harper, who by the way, was awesome today.
Bryce Harper’s monster day by the numbers
- 4-6 hitting
- struck out in his first at-bat, sure. Then?
- 4th inning: 🚀 2-run homer
- 6th inning: 📐 RBI double
- 8th inning: 📐 Another double
- And for good measure: 📐 One more double in the 9th
It’s a long season, and we can argue until the sun comes down what aspect of the team needs improved by the trade deadline. But there’s no denying how much a healthy Bryce Harper can really lift this team. So, fingers crossed for health moving forward and perhaps some trade-deadline moves that actually move the needle.
