NBA Cup opponents revealed, and the Sixers are primed to finally bring a parade down Broad Street
Sixers fans, get excited! While we still wait for the real NBA schedule to drop, the league is keeping its priorities in check by letting us know who the Sixers will be facing in the NBA Cup group stage.
Nothing screams “basketball matters” in July like hyping up the most unserious event on the NBA calendar. Philadelphia will take on the Celtics, Pistons, Magic, and Nets in group play this fall.
Same format as the last two years: Play some oddly marketed games during the regular season on horrible court designs, try to pretend they matter more than they do, and eventually someone hoists a trophy in Vegas like it actually means something.
Sixers NBA Cup Opponents
To be fair, the Sixers have done exactly what you’d expect in this thing: go 2-2 and bow out in the group stage both years. They’ve never advanced, which really isn’t the worst outcome when you consider how dumb this whole thing is.
Still, credit to Adam Silver, NBA Commissioner and lifelong rat, for doubling down on the NBA Cup experiment. The man believes in this tournament like it’s the basketball version of the Champions League, and we’re all just stuck playing along.
But hey, at least it gives us something to point at and mock when the Sixers lose to the Magic in front of 11 people on a Tuesday night in November. Here’s to a third straight 2-2 finish. Maybe this time we get some shiny confetti to go with it.
