Ja’Marr Chase disses Eagles cornerbacks and now I’m convinced the AFC North might be littered with CTE
Ja’Marr Chase decided to drop his personal rankings for the top cornerbacks in the NFL, and somehow, not a single cornerback from the World Champion Philadelphia Eagles made the list. Instead, Chase went full homerism, listing four from the AFC North…his own division.
Let’s break it down before we get to why his list is not only wrong — it’s borderline concerning.
Ja’mar Chase disses Eagles cornerbacks
How do you look at what Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell have already done in limited reps and not include them?
Let’s talk DeJean real quick. In the Browns game, he stacked up six tackles and got his first career sack. The real moment came when he stopped Ja’Marr Chase cold on a crucial fourth down — one-on-one, in space, textbook wrap-up that flipped momentum in Philly’s favor. That wasn’t luck. That was tape study, instincts, and confidence, which shocker, are all the things you want in a corner.
It’s worth noting that the Eagles held the Bengals to just 17 points in that game and Chase had nine receptions for only 54 yards, thanks in large part to Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.
AFC North delusion…
It’s not just Chase. The entire AFC North feels like it’s been hit over the head one too many times. And before this blog goes completely rogue, I just want to note that it is a Monday, and we are all still recovering from a long 4th of July break. So, bare with me.
- The Browns have obviously burned through more QBs than they have won games. Not to mention they have like a 6 quarterback position battle going on right now between Joe Flacco, Shadeur Sanders, Kenny Pickett (LOL), Dillon Gabriel, and I’m sure I’m missing names at this point.
- The Steelers just traded away George Pickens — who was the biggest crashout in the NFL — and somehow turned around and brought in Aaron Rodgers. I love Rodgers, but let’s not pretend he doesn’t have a loose screw himself.
- And then there’s Lamar Jackson, who is without a doubt a generational talent, but comes up small in the playoffs, and argues with people on Twitter. Like seriously, Lamar should be the best quarterback in the NFL, but he’s like the polar opposite of Jalen Hurts. And that is what holds him and the Ravens back.
- And of course the Bengals, where we are touching on Chase, but their franchise quarterback Joe Burrow decided one day he wants to be Slim Shady, the next he’s purchasing real-life batmobiles.
Now, does this seem so crazy after all now? Like, talk about an absolutely insane division. I use to think the NFC East was an oddball division.
All jokes aside…
CTE isn’t something to joke about and I think a lot of us fans forget these are human beings at the end of the day putting their livelihood on the line every Sunday for our entertainment.
I’m not a bad person for making a joke. I’m just someone, like you who is starving for the NFL to return. We’re in the Dog Days so you have to be creative for content. We can sit here and tell you over and over again why every stupid list ranking Jalen Hurts as a middle-of-the-pack quarterback is wrong, even though we do that anyways.
Anyways…
If Ja’Marr Chase wants to hype up his division, that’s fine — but don’t do it at the expense of reality. The Eagles secondary is loaded and features more talent than half the AFC North combined. With guys like DeJean and Mitchell already putting clamps on star receivers, it’s only a matter of time before Chase has no choice but to respect it.
Or maybe he won’t. Maybe he’ll keep living in a delusional AFC North echo chamber where two former Eagles SB champion’s play now in Darius Slay and Kenny Pickett.
Either way, I don’t think it’s an outlandish request for somebody check his helmet. Something’s not right.
