WATCH: Caitlin Clark Rips Ref Mid-Game, Sophie Cunningham Joins In — Brother Calls Out Officiating After Injury
You’d think after months of national criticism and every basketball fan with a brain screaming about it, the WNBA refs would finally get their act together.
Nope.
Tuesday night’s Fever vs. Sun game was another masterclass in how not to officiate a basketball game. And shoutout to Caitlin Clark for finally saying what we’ve all been thinking — loud, clear, and straight to the face of referee Michael Price.
Caitlin Clark exchange with referee
“That’s just rude”

“Grow up! Come here come here! Unbelievable” pic.twitter.com/6UHW8KUYUd
With just under four minutes left in the third quarter, the game paused for a coach’s challenge from the Connecticut Sun — a challenge that eventually handed the Sun another possession.
While the officials huddled to review the play, Clark had enough.
She lit up Michael Price (ref No. 39), barking:
“You’re rude. Grow up.”
And then, like a true menace, she pulled out the fake phone gesture and said:
“I will be calling.”
Clark then waved him over like he was her son in trouble at the dinner table. The ESPN broadcast caught the entire thing. And honestly? She was justified.
This wasn’t a heat-of-the-moment blow-up. This was a simmering pot boiling over after months of getting hacked, shoved, and disrespected while the zebras just twiddle their whistles.
Props to Clark for walking that fine line. She didn’t get T’d up — which honestly might be a miracle considering how soft the officiating has been this year when it’s convenient. But that’s what makes this even better. She stayed in the game and still made a statement.
Sophie Cunningham Got Elbowed… And Got Called for Flopping?!
If you need more proof that the officiating is a complete joke right now, just look at Sophie Cunningham.
She caught a blatant elbow to the dome, hit the floor, and somehow — somehow — the refs called her for flopping.
Sophie took to Twitter (X, whatever we’re calling it now) and dropped this gem:
they said I flopped. el oh el. https://t.co/EV3W5LKkRK

The clip is laughable. There’s no acting. Just a clean elbow to the face. And yet, the whistle punished her. Welcome to the WNBA in 2025.
Caitlin’s Off Night — But Still Gets the W
Now sure, Caitlin Clark didn’t exactly light it up. She shot 4-of-14 from the field, 1-of-7 from deep. But she still finished with 14 points, eight boards, and seven dimes — and more importantly, the Fever got the win 85-77 over the Sun.
And that win matters — not just in the standings, but in the narrative.
The last time these two teams played, things got chippy real fast. This time around? Not as much between the players. But Clark brought the heat to the only people who truly deserved it last night: the officials.
Total WNBA disaster class last night
And just when you think it couldn’t get worse for the refs — Caitlin Clark gets injured again, and this time even her own family is calling them out.
Her younger brother, Colin Clark, took to X mid-game and didn’t hold back, in a later deleted tweet.

No lies detected.
Clark tweaked her right groin late in the Fever’s win over the Sun — her fourth injury in three months. She’s already dealt with a quad strain, groin issues, and now this. Coincidence? Colin didn’t think so, though he later deleted the post. But let’s be real — the message was loud and clear. The WNBA’s officiating is failing Caitlin Clark, full stop.
