Phillies’ MLB All-Star Game History: From Shibe Park to Citizens Bank Park
PHILLIES – The Midsummer Classic is coming back to Philadelphia in 2026—and it’ll be the city’s fifth time hosting baseball’s biggest celebration. While Citizens Bank Park will make its All-Star debut, the event has a rich history in Philly, dating back over 80 years.
2026 – Citizens Bank Park
Coming soon.
The Phillies are ready. The ballpark is ready. The city is ready. We’ll see if the National League can keep its Philadelphia streak alive when the stars come out under the lights at CBP next July.
The Phillies are MLB All-Star Game Ready…
1996 – Veterans Stadium
National League 6, American League 0
Mike Piazza stole the show in front of a pumped-up home crowd not far from his hometown of Norristown. He ripped a homer and a double en route to MVP honors, as the NL shut out the AL for the first time since 1987.
John Smoltz started with two scoreless innings, Ken Caminiti added a bomb, and baseball bid farewell to Ozzie Smith, who made his 15th and final All-Star appearance.
1976 – Veterans Stadium
National League 7, American League 1
In front of President Gerald Ford and a sold-out Vet crowd, the NL ran away with it. George Foster earned MVP honors with a three-run blast off Catfish Hunter.
Tom Seaver gave up a solo homer to Fred Lynn, but that was the AL’s only offense. Steve Garvey and Ken Griffey Sr. chipped in RBIs, and Mark “The Bird” Fidrych made the start for the AL in his rookie year. Bicentennial year, and the NL brought the fireworks.
1952 – Shibe Park
National League 3, American League 2 (5 innings – rain shortened)
The only rain-shortened All-Star Game in MLB history saw Jackie Robinson take Vic Raschi deep in the first inning. Hank Sauer added another homer off Bob Lemon, and those runs held up through five wet innings.
This game marked Mickey Mantle’s first selection (age 20) and Satchel Paige’s last (age 46), though neither appeared. One of the more bizarre box scores in ASG history.
1943 – Shibe Park
American League 5, National League 3
The first-ever All-Star Game played at night. Wartime rosters lacked depth, but legends still showed up. Stan Musial made his All-Star debut, his first of twenty-four straight appearances, and Bobby Doerr blasted a three-run homer off Mort Cooper to help the AL to victory.
