No Book Deal, no Eagles Super Bowl hangover, Nick Sirianni is laser-focused on 2025

I want to make something crystal clear, before I dive in here. I will forever love Doug Pederson. The man brought the first Lombardi Trophy to Philadelphia. He’s an Eagles legend. He’s a Philly legend. I don’t care what happened or happens in his career since. Dougy P is forever stamped in my eyes.

He outcoached Bill Belichick on the biggest stage and somehow managed to instill the hope and belief in a team that was entering the postseason with a backup quarterback. Not only is that Eagles history, but that’s one of the best underdog stories in sports you will ever hear.

However, what happened following our first Super Bowl in franchise history still bothers me. And it’s something that has likely been in the back of Eagles fans minds all offseason.

How will this Eagles team handle success? Well, let’s start with the mindset of their head coach

Now, to rewind for the final time here: The 2018 Eagles were sloppy. Unfocused. Entitled. They strutted into the season thinking they were untouchable. Doug ran it back with the same staff, the same energy, a strange quarterback situation — and the team played like they had already hung up the cleats after the parade down Broad Street.

Yeah, they snuck into the playoffs. But that team wasn’t hungry. They were full — and not in a good way. And I think Doug Pederson was the captain of that Super Bowl hangover team. I mean the guy spent his offseason writing a book. Which, he had every right to.

And that is where we get to the current head coach, Nick Siranni:

“Yeah, you could do a book, you could do endorsements, or something like that. And there’s that’s no — everybody has different, I just wanted to focus on our team and how we get better, taking football away. How do we get better tackling? How do we get better taking care of the football? How do we get better at this scheme? How do we get better at that scheme? How do we get better at our culture? I think sometimes, too, it’s like, you have to repeat steps and find ways to get better at repeating those steps.”

Yeah you could do a book? Is that shade? Oh man, I feel like Dougie P may have caught an indirect stray there, but regardless you get the point.

My personal favorite quote from Nick this summer was this one:

“Treat praise like perfume. Sniff it. Don’t drink it. It’s poison.

Yeah. Let’s be honest. Due to the nature of Jalen Hurts and Sirianni, I feel great about how this team will handle having the largest target on their back this season. But, not only that. They actually have the second youngest roster in the NFL. Which tells you how a lot of the players on the team haven’t even hit their prime yet.

That bodes incredibly well for the Eagles heading into 2025. The quest for back-to-back Super Bowl’s begins right now.
