Phillies Takeaways from the Farm
- Andrew Painter tops the list for good reason—his 6-inning, 1-hit Triple-A gem is just the latest reminder of his ceiling. He’s future rotation material in Philly.
- Aidan Miller and Eduardo Tait remain elite in their roles—Miller with plus power potential at shortstop and Tait delivering as a switch-hitting catcher.
- Justin Crawford and Aroon Escobar lock in the top-five. Crawford’s blazing speed and hit tool versus Escobar’s polished bat and defensive consistency in the middle infield.
- Plenty of pitching depth, with Mick Abel (the 2024 first-rounder) just one of many arms—Gage Wood, Seth Johnson, Jean Cabrera, Matthew Fisher, and Wen Hui Pan bolster an impressive system.
- Utilities and speed demons like Otto Kemp, Hendry Mendez, and Griffin Burkholder make for intriguing bench or future everyday options.
Painter, Miller, Tait, Crawford, Escobar and Abel are the real bets for big-league contributions in the future. The rest, at least from right now, are fringe prospects, swingmen, or tools-only types, which could make for exciting depth, but are a little longer on the risk curve.
If the Phillies ever decide to swing big at the deadline for someone like Emmanuel Clase or Jhoan Durán, the depth among these names gives them real currency but also provides flexibility to let these guys develop.
