Nick Castellanos banged up, Aaron Nola set for rehab start, Phillies shuffle roster
Nick Castellanos has been ruled out for Saturday’s game against the New York Yankees.
Just when you thought the vibes couldn’t get any better after Kyle Schwarber torched Yankee Stadium with two bombs and career hit No. 1,000 on Friday night, Nick Castellanos threw his body into the wall to seal the 12-5 win… and jammed his knee in the process.

Nick Castellanos is sore…
According to Rob Thomson, Nick Castellanos “came in a little sore” on Saturday after that final-out grab at the warning track and was held out of the lineup. Day-to-day is the word, but it’s worth keeping an eye on, especially with how much he’s played this season. Saturday is just the second game he’s missed all year.
The Phillies are currently rolling with Max Kepler in right, Brandon Marsh in left, and Johan Rojas back in center. Rojas might be allergic to hitting, but he can at least track a ball… most of the time.
Quick Note: Anyone who wants Nick Castellanos traded doesn’t know baseball. Ignore them at all costs. Thank you.
Aaron Nola gearing up…
Meanwhile, Aaron Nola is heading out on a rehab assignment this coming Thursday with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He’ll be limited to about three innings or 60 pitches as he works back from a rib fracture.
The Phillies made a trade today…
The Phillies also pulled off a minor trade, acquiring outfielder Brewer Hicklen from the Tigers for cash. He’s bounced between the Brewers, Royals, and Tigers but now rejoins Lehigh Valley, where he played last year. The corresponding move? Right-hander Ryan Cusick got DFA’d. Business.
Daniel Robert continues to settle in nicely in the bullpen. He cleaned up the ninth inning Friday night, sitting the Yankees down 1-2-3, and now holds a 1.23 ERA through 10 appearances. Not bad for a guy who was riding the AAA shuttle all spring. Thomson’s clearly starting to trust him in higher-leverage spots.
Phillies currently up 2-0 on the Yanks
JT Realmuto stays hot with an RBI to get The Fightins on the board and Bryce Harper hit a bomb to put them up 2-0 on the Yankees heading into the fourth inning.
Looking Ahead to Sunday
Looking ahead to Sunday’s matinee against Yankees lefty Carlos Rodón, expect the Phillies to roll out the righty-heavy specials. Rob Thomson mentioned Otto Kemp at third, Edmundo Sosa at second, and Weston Wilson in left are all possibilities. That could mean a full day off for Trea Turner, depending on how the matchups shake out.
Quick Wrap: The Phillies are 59-44 and just ran it up on the Yankees in their own house. Schwarber is hotter than the sun. Castellanos is sore but not shelved. Nola’s on his way back. This is a wagon. Don’t get off.
