Phillies mock trade sends top prospects for Luis Robert Jr.

The Phillies aren’t just sniffing the playoffs this season—they’re charging toward their fourth straight trip with their sights locked in on something bigger: a return to the World Series.

But to finish the job? It feels like at the very least, they need another big bat.

Enter: Luis Robert Jr.—a 5-tool center fielder who’s wasting away in baseball purgatory over in Chicago. Former MLB exec and current Athletic insider Jim Bowden made it clear this week where he thinks Robert belongs.

“I love the fit for him (Luis Robert Jr.) in Philadelphia,” Bowden wrote. “New York and Cincinnati are also solid options, but I think he’d succeed in any of those environments.”

Phillies trade rumors continue to heat up…

Bryce Harper is heating up. Trea Turner is back healthy. Kyle Schwarber has already launched 36 nukes. But let’s not act like this team doesn’t need help.

Despite the star power, the Phillies rank 12th in total runs and just 13th in home runs. Remove Schwarber’s bombs from the equation and it gets ugly—like, Pirates ugly.

So yeah, another legit offensive threat wouldn’t hurt. And while Luis Robert Jr. isn’t putting up MVP numbers in 2025, the dude is still only 27, has elite tools, and would instantly give the Phillies one of the most athletic outfields in the game.

A Fire Sale in Chicago Is Brewing

The White Sox (37-66) are an embarrassment. They’ve been bottom-feeding for years and it’s clear they’re heading toward a full-blown rebuild. If the Phillies want to pounce, now’s the time.

Here’s one hypothetical deal being floated:

Phillies Receive:

  • Luis Robert Jr. (CF)

White Sox Receive:

  • Justin Crawford (OF – Triple-A – Phillies’ #3 prospect)
  • Mick Abel (RHP – Triple-A – Phillies’ #2 prospect)

At first glance, it’s a steep price. Two of Philly’s most promising young talents for a guy who hasn’t hit .300 since 2021 and has struggled to stay healthy? Fair concern.

But this is what going all-in looks like.

Why This Trade Makes Sense

Luis Robert Jr. is the kind of player who screams “needs a change of scenery.” He’s got All-Star pedigree (2023), Gold Glove hardware (2020), and 26 stolen bases this season—more than anyone currently on the Phillies roster.

And while he has hit just 10 home runs this season, in limited action, he is on a garbage team and is likely checked out. So, imagine him in a lineup with Schwarber, Harper, and Turner… Could be the exact spark plug this team needs and the difference between an early Playoff exit and a World Series.

The beauty of Robert’s deal? He’s under team control through 2027, with club options in ‘26 and ‘27. That gives the Phillies flexibility. They’d get a potential All-Star in his prime without being locked into a long-term nightmare deal.

And let’s be real—Dave Dombrowski doesn’t shy away from big swings. He made the moves that brought Schwarber and Turner here. Adding Robert Jr. would be another power play in a long list of them. It has been a while since a big swing, as it’s been multiple underwhelming trade deadlines for the Phils. This time around has to be different.
