Only in Philly and only for Kyle Schwarber.

At Citizens Bank Park on Saturday, a group of Phillies fans did what any red-blooded, patriot would do in a time of crisis by printing out the Declaration of Independence, turning it into a petition, and collecting signatures to demand the Phillies re-sign Kyle Schwarber.

Losing Kyle Schwarber would be a bigger betrayal than the Boston Tea Party.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if the extension gets finalized after the postseason. If the Phillies make it to the NLCS or World Series, Kyle Schwarber will get a new contact.

Anything short of that might result in Dave Dombrowski and John Middleton opting to completely shake things up and look elsewhere to retool this lineup around Bryce Harper and Trea Turner.

I still don’t see that happening. You won’t find a better DH and if you’re expanding the horizon to cover outfielders, than the Phillies can’t afford to lose that type of production either way.

Kyle Schwarber needs a contract extension to keep the championship window open for the Phillies. We’ll have to wait and see how John Middleton and Dave Dombrowski handle it when it’s all said and done this year.

PAY THE MAN: Phillies fans are bringing blank checks to Citizens Bank Park for Kyle Schwarber

First it was the blank checks, and now we have the Declaration of Independence (shoutout Philly) being signed to ensure that our guy stays in Philly.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal… and that Kyle Schwarber should never wear another uniform.”

The Schwarber Declaration should be passed around The Bank faster than hotdogs on Dollar Dog Nights back when the Phillies PR team didn’t screw that up.

Fans should take it to the next level and co-sign with their blood just so Middleton, Dombrowski, and Kyle Schwarber himself know how much he means to the city.
