Bob Cousey blasts WNBA for how they treat Caitlin Clark – “They Should Be Kissing the Ground She Walks On”
If you’ve been following Caitlin Clark since her days at Iowa (and if you’re reading this, you probably refresh your feed for every injury update like I do), you already know the deal — she’s not just playing in the WNBA, she’s basically carrying the entire operation on her back.
And now? One of the most respected legends in basketball history just said what the rest of us with a brain have been screaming into the void all season.
Bob Cousey on Caitlin Clark
Celtics' legend Bob Cousy loves what Caitlin Clark has done for the WNBA.

Bob Cousy — yes, that Bob Cousy — the man with six NBA championships, an MVP trophy, and 13 straight All-Star nods, isn’t just sitting around watching old Celtics VHS tapes. He’s been locked in on Caitlin Clark’s impact and the way other WNBA players have been… let’s just say… “welcoming” her to the league.
I think I trust the 8x NBA assist leader when it comes to his opinions on basketball. Especially over any psychopath that sits on the X app all day and just spews off Caitlin Clark hate. And if Cousey is anything like me, he is hoping that we get a healthy Caitlin Clark here very soon.
Because, well, the WNBA needs her.
Playing Through Frustration
Before the groin injury that’s got her listed day-to-day right now, Clark was putting up:
- 16.5 points
- 5.0 rebounds
- 8.8 assists
- 1.6 steals
…all while shooting 36.7% from the field and 82% from the line. Pretty solid for someone getting hacked like it’s a full-court football drill.
On Sue Bird’s podcast, Clark opened up about how brutal this year’s been:
“It’s just been so challenging… frustrated of like how hard I worked in the offseason… all I do is rehab… trying to trust that the best I can.
…It’s not like I have a training camp to build up to playing my first game again. It’s like, ‘No, you’re tossed into game 30. Go try to play well.’ Like it’s hard.”
Cousy’s Closing Point — And Why It Matters
Cousy gets it. The WNBA is growing faster than ever, but a lot of that growth is because of Clark’s marketability, skill, and the way she’s brought millions of new eyes to the league. As he told the Globe:
“It’s a saleable product and [Caitlin] Clark’s done a really good job selling it. It’s enjoyable… She’s exceptional.”
Translation? Stop trying to knock her out of games and start realizing she’s making everyone more money.
Until then, we’ll keep rooting for her to heal up, keep dropping dimes, and keep proving us truthers right. Including Bob Cousey.
