Course Conditions: Sirens blaring and the sweet smell of cars burning is Philly Golf in a nutshell
Philly Golf is a different beast. How am I supposed to stick a wedge when there’s a Dodge Charger roasting to my left and a full parade of sirens coming in hot? Every great golfer will question the same thing, the key is focus. Breathe. Pick your spot. Visualize the shot. Block out the noise. Stay locked in.

That’s cute advice… if you’re at Augusta National. In Philadelphia? That’s child’s play.
You want to be mentally tough? You want to develop the kind of focus that lets you drain putts while the world is burning? Come play golf at Bala Golf Club.
Philly Golf Hits Different
Bala Golf Club. A beautiful little William Flynn track, tucked less than 10 miles from Center City. Right by St. Joe’s, perfect for the city golfer who doesn’t want to fight for muni tee times. Apparently it’s also perfect to take in the true Philly-culture, by catching an actual car fire mid-round.
That’s exactly what happened in the video above. This poor guy is standing over his approach shot, sirens blaring and a full-on fireball just yards away. Unfortunately, he caved under pressure. The mayor of Decel City let the elements get to him and his shot was nowhere close to the green. Maybe sign up for some yoga classes and stretch that stiff body out, brother.
Still, it’s hard to blame him given his surroundings.
That’s Philly golf, baby. The kind of conditions that’ll be waiting for the big boys next May when the PGA Championship hits Aronimink and again in 2030 when the U.S. Open returns to Merion.
Sure, those courses are in the nice zip codes… but you don’t have to live there to drive over, park nearby, and have your car spontaneously combust.
Philly Golf. Mental toughness boot camp. That’s our brand of golf. Welcome to it.
