Ryder Cup: Scottie Scheffler runs away with U.S. qualifying, Top 6 set for Bethpage Black
The first half of the U.S. Ryder Cup team is officially locked in, and no surprise here, Scottie Scheffler is sitting on top like it was never even a race.
Scottie Scheffler, fresh off another win at the BMW Championship, didn’t just qualify for Bethpage Black, he doubled up the rest of the American field. The World No. 1 stacked 37,181 points in the Ryder Cup race, while the next closest guy, J.J. Spaun, had less than 15,000.

The other automatic qualifiers alongside Scheffler are Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English, and Bryson DeChambeau. Yes, Bryson punched his ticket too — the only LIV player in the group — even though he hasn’t earned Ryder Cup points since The Open. He was promised a spot regardless, but locking it up outright makes the conversation moot.
The Top 6 Americans for Bethpage Black
- Scottie Scheffler — 37,181
- J.J. Spaun — 14,852
- Xander Schauffele — 13,734
- Russell Henley — 12,277
- Harris English — 10,881
- Bryson DeChambeau — 10,775
Now the drama shifts to captain Keegan Bradley, who sits at No. 11 in points but will make six captain’s picks after the Tour Championship in Atlanta. Could he pick himself? Technically yes but we haven’t seen a playing captain since Arnold Palmer in 1963. Even Rory McIlroy said recently it’s not realistic in the modern Ryder Cup.

Keegan Bradley had a big year (five top 10s, a win at the Travelers, back inside the top 10 in the OWGR), but he’s playing coy:
“I have to look at myself just like any other player trying to make the team. I’m 10th in points right now, and that’s not sixth.”
The next group fighting for picks includes Justin Thomas (7th), Collin Morikawa (8th), Ben Griffin (9th), Maverick McNealy (10th), and Brian Harman (12th).
What’s Next
Europe’s side will lock in after the Betfred British Masters next weekend. Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, and Tommy Fleetwood are already safe, and Luke Donald will make his six picks once their top six is finalized.
The Ryder Cup tees off September 26th at Bethpage Black, where it’ll be loud, hostile, and very New York. Scheffler looks inevitable, Bryson gets his LIV spotlight, and Keegan has one massive decision hanging over his head.
