Golfer Hole-In-One Scam Sick Grandma WingHaven Country Club

Golfer fakes sick grandma in attempt to pull off one of the most ridiculous hole-in-one scams in Member-Member history

Strap in, because this is one of the most unhinged golf scams I’ve ever heard, and the guy who pulled it off is a genuine lunatic. A member at WingHaven Country Club out in St. Louis concocted an elaborate, multi-layered scheme to fake a hole-in-one and steal a couple grand from the club pool, and the sheer amount of premeditated effort this maniac put into it is genuinely disturbing.

The Hole-In-One Scam Setup

Here’s the con. WingHaven had their Member-Member this past weekend, and Friday night this guy comes up to the pro and says he forgot to buy into the hole-in-one pool, which pays out $1,500 to $2,000 depending on the year. The pro says fine, nobody’s hit one yet, so you’re in. The guy says great, I’m feeling lucky.

Red flag number one, in hindsight.

Fast forward to Saturday, and conveniently he’s got the very first tee time of the morning, playing two-man best ball with two other guys. Right on the first tee, he starts laying the groundwork like a criminal mastermind: “Hey guys, my grandma’s really sick, I might have to step away for a call.” The other two, being normal, decent people, say of course, no problem. And that’s exactly the reaction this snake was counting on.

The Scam

They play one, two, three. Now here’s the crucial piece: the third green sits below the fourth tee with mounds around it, so you can’t really see the fourth tee from the third green. Our guy finishes out on three and says he’s gonna run up to the fourth, hit his tee shot to help pace of play, and take the grandma call. Sure, go ahead.

They get to the fourth, ask if he hit, and he goes, “Yeah, thinned it a little but it was going right at the pin. Never saw it land, so either I flew the green or it’s in the hole.” They walk up, and there’s a divot 20 feet short of the green, and his ball is sitting in the cup. Everyone goes berserk, there’s video of the celebration, they win the Member-Member, and he collects the pool.

Flawless. Except this absolute genius forgot it’s 2026.

The Downfall

Monday, the pro gets a call from another member, a local attorney, who says the whole thing smells wrong. Nobody saw the swing, nobody saw the ball land. The pro remembers there’s a camera on the maintenance shed by the fourth and goes to check.

There’s our criminal mastermind on tape, rolling up to the shed at 6:30 AM, a good half hour before his tee time, strolling down toward the fourth green, and hopping back in his truck five minutes later. Confronted with it, he folded instantly, gave back the money, and got tossed from the club.

Let that sink in. This lunatic woke up before dawn, drove to the course in secret, walked to the green, placed his ball in the hole, and hand-carved a fake divot 20 feet short to sell the shot. That’s not a spur-of-the-moment lapse in judgment. That’s a fully premeditated operation planned out days in advance, complete with a fake dying relative as cover. Who does this? A lunatic does this.

Let’s Be Honest About How Deranged This Is

Let me rank the crimes here, because there’s a lot. He’s not the biggest scumbag for faking a sick grandma. That’s the oldest lie in the book, right next to “you’re the best I’ve ever had.” He’s not even the biggest scumbag for stealing the money.

The truly unforgivable, ban-him-from-the-sport offense is doing all of this as a supposedly GOOD golfer to fake a hole-in-one. This guy is reportedly a plus-handicap player. Some of us are out here grinding for pars, scrambling like our lives depend on it just to avoid a double, and finally squeaking out one birdie late in the round to convince ourselves we’re not completely hopeless.

This clown, who can actually play, is out here running a dawn reconnaissance mission to plant a ball in a cup? That makes him one of the worst dudes walking the planet, short of an actual violent crime.

The man carved a fake divot into the green. Read that again. That is a level of delusion and derangement I cannot wrap my head around.

Sure, I’ll grudgingly admit he works remarkably hard at cheating, but that’s the kind of “compliment” you give a guy right before he gets escorted off the property forever.

The Member-Member Is Sacred, You Animal

The Member-Member is a sacred event. You look forward to it all year. It’s bragging rights, it’s the ultimate competition for those of us with nothing left on the athletic side of life. A hole-in-one is the dream. Every hacker who’s ever picked up a club fantasizes about that one perfect, magical shot.

You do everything on a course chasing that moment. You CANNOT fake it. You can’t fake the enthusiasm, and you sure as hell can’t manufacture it to steal money. Faking an ace is like faking a proposal. It desecrates the one pure, holy thing every golfer is out there chasing, and this lunatic did it for two grand.

The Apology Made It So Much Worse

Just when you think this guy can’t get any more insufferable, he opens his mouth.

Here’s his apology:

“I made a terrible mistake. The lack of moral character. I can take the banter and the chatter and the heat because I deserve that from a golf perspective. What I am most worried about is my family, breaking trust with a marriage I’ve had for five years next month. We have two kids under three, and it’s not fair to put them in a situation where when they walk through a room there’s a stigma that your dad is a cheater. So questions they may get asked down the road, that’s the worst part. The golf is secondary.”

This clown is out here worrying about his toddlers getting heckled in daycare over HIS cheating scandal. My guy, your kids are under three. They’re worried about nap time and Cocomelon, not your country club fraud case.

Framing your fake-hole-in-one scam as some tragedy that’s going to haunt your innocent children is the most self-serving, tone-deaf thing imaginable. The golfer didn’t do this TO your kids. The golfer did this because you’re a lunatic who wanted to steal a hole-in-one, and now you’re hiding behind your family to soften the fact that you got humiliated on camera.

That’s the other thing. You got caught on a security camera in 2026. There are cameras EVERYWHERE now. You planned the sick grandma, the pace-of-play excuse, the hard-to-see green, the pre-dawn heist, and you somehow forgot that country clubs have surveillance.

The apology doesn’t make him sympathetic. It makes him look even more delusional, dragging his kids into it to dodge accountability for something he meticulously planned all by himself.

The Verdict

WingHaven put out a very corporate statement about caring deeply about the integrity of the game and considering the matter closed. Fine. Make no mistake, this man is a full-blown lunatic and the biggest jerk to ever walk a fairway.

This golfer faked a dying grandma, faked an ace, carved a fake divot, robbed a sacred event, got busted by a maintenance shed camera, and then had the audacity to make his apology about his kids instead of owning that he’s a serial schemer who got caught.

Ban this golfer from every course in America. Genuinely impressive effort applied to the single dumbest, most deranged goal imaginable. The cameras are always watching, pal, and the hole-in-one gods do not forgive lunatics.
