Rapper Skrilla arrested in Kensington after allegedly firing toy gun at Police
Only in Philly. Local rapper Skrilla (real name Jemille Edwards, 27) was arrested late Saturday night in Kensington after allegedly hitting a police officer with gel pellets from a toy gun, while he was filming a music video.
According to police, officers were on scene near Kensington and Allegheny around 11 p.m. to keep traffic in check when Edwards allegedly fired three shots at one of them, hitting the officer in the face, neck, and chest.
The “shots” came from a toy pellet gun, but that didn’t stop the arrest.
The officer wasn’t injured, and police recovered the toy gun. Edwards was taken into custody without incident, charged with assaulting an officer, and released Sunday morning.

Social Media Spin
Naturally, video of the arrest made its way online. Philly content creator The Philly Captain (Jon McCann) said the toy gun didn’t even belong to Skrilla. Apparently, it belonged to nearby kids who had been playing with it before the shoot.
“(He) definitely knew it was a toy,” McCann told Fox29. He even claimed Edwards helped keep the situation calm during the arrest.
Edwards grew up in Kensington and is known locally for tracks like “Doot Doot (6 7)” and his feature on 1900Rugrat’s “Auntie Ain’t Playin.” Saturday night wasn’t exactly the kind of publicity a rising rapper wants, but in Kensington, the line between chaos and clout is razor-thin.
No injuries. A toy gun. A music video gone sideways. Still, Philly police hit Skrilla with serious charges. Whether it sticks or not, the arrest adds another chapter to Kensington’s reputation for wild, only-in-Philly headlines.
