Eagles WR Johnny Wilson done for the season after training camp injury

The Eagles took a tough blow at training camp this week, as wide receiver Johnny Wilson will miss the entire 2025 season following knee and ankle surgery.

The second-year wideout went down Tuesday after getting rolled up on during practice, and the scene played out in the worst way — Wilson limped off in pain, got checked in the medical tent, and was eventually carted inside the NovaCare Complex.

A Promising Camp Cut Short

This one stings because Wilson was finally turning the corner. After a rocky start to camp, he began flashing the talent that made him such an intriguing prospect.

In the Eagles’ first preseason game, Wilson showcased his 6’6” frame, pulling down contested jump balls and giving fans a glimpse of what he could be as a red-zone mismatch. He was carving out a role as a blocker, special teams contributor, and occasional big-body target. Instead, he’s headed to injured reserve before the season even starts.

Eagles Still Have Depth at Wide Receiver

Even with Wilson sidelined, the Eagles’ receiver room remains in decent shape. The top three are set in stone with AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Jahan Dotson. Behind them, Darius Cooper has been one of the biggest surprises of training camp, Ainias Smith provides versatility, and the newly acquired John Metchie III is already looking like a smart move by Howie Roseman. That Metchie trade aged like fine wine, especially now.

What’s Next for Wilson

The timing couldn’t be worse for Wilson, who was working his way into the mix on a stacked Eagles roster. Instead of fighting for reps this season, he’ll spend the year rehabbing and aiming to return fully healthy for the 2026 offseason. If he can bounce back, the size and skillset are still there — he just needs the chance to prove it.

For now, the Eagles will press on without him, but here’s hoping Wilson makes a full recovery and comes back ready to compete next year.
