Eagles-Cowboys Opening Night Odds: Birds favored to start title defense with a convincing win over Dallas

Next week, it’s banner night in Philly. The Eagles are raising the 2024 Super Bowl LIX banner at The Linc on Thursday Night Football, and they’ll do it against the opponent that makes the whole thing taste even sweeter with the Dallas Cowboys coming to South Philly.

The sportsbooks already see it coming.

Across the board, the Birds are anywhere from 6.5 to 7.5-point favorites heading into Week 1, with moneylines floating around -300 to -340 depending on where you look. That means Vegas expects the Eagles to handle business and start their title defense the right way, with a convincing win over the Cowboys.

The State of the Eagles

Offense: Jalen Hurts. Saquon Barkley. A.J. Brown. DeVonta Smith. Dallas Goedert. All back. All healthy. Philly’s offensive firepower remains intact, and good luck to anyone trying to stop it.

Defense: The Carter-Mitchell-Campbell youth movement is here. Jalen Carter leads the front, Quinyon Mitchell shores up the secondary, and first-round rookie Jihaad Campbell is ready to hit. Sure, there are questions at CB2 and safety, but there’s no shortage of talent.

On paper, the Birds look built to make another deep run.

Eagles shuffle the 53-man roster, bring back Charley Hughlett and add Willie Lampkin

Meanwhile in Dallas…

The Cowboys are, well, the Cowboys: chaos wrapped in hype. Dak Prescott is back after a hamstring tear ended his 2024 season early, but this is still the same underwhelming roster that couldn’t get it done even with him healthy.

Add in the ongoing Micah Parsons contract soap opera, with Jerry Jones dragging his feet on an extension, and it’s peak Cowboys dysfunction.

The Numbers Don’t Lie

Last season, the Eagles didn’t just beat Dallas, they humiliated them. Twice.

  • Week 10 (in Arlington): Eagles 34, Cowboys 6. Hurts accounted for four TDs while Dallas managed 146 total yards.
  • Week 17 (in Philly): Eagles 41, Cowboys 7. Hurts sat with a concussion, but Kenny Pickett and Tanner McKee still tossed highlight-reel bombs, Saquon Barkley ran for 167, and Dallas got steamrolled again.

That’s an aggregate score of 75-13 in two games. Two statement wins that cemented the Eagles as the NFC’s top dog.

Odds Snapshot (as of Aug. 27)

  • DraftKings: PHI -7, O/U 46.5
  • FanDuel: PHI -6.5, O/U 46.5
  • BetRivers: PHI -7, O/U 46
  • BetMGM: PHI -7, O/U 46
  • ESPN BET: PHI -7.5, O/U 46.5

No matter the book, the message is the same. As expected, the Eagles are heavy favorites to take care of Dallas on opening night.

Raise the banner. Beat Dallas.
