Villanova punter is the oldest player in college football at 33 years old

Villanova punter Luke Larsen enters 2025 as the oldest player in Division I college football at a whopping 33 years of age. Over the past six years, the Australian nation has attended two schools and is now working toward earning his third degree.

Villanova is letting this grown ass man live out his Peter Pan fantasy as a sixth-year senior. Here’s how his eligibility has been broken down over that span:

  • 2020 — pandemic year
  • 2021 — redshirt year
  • 2022 — first year of eligibility at ECU
  • 2023 — second year of eligibility at ECU
  • 2024 — third year of eligibility at ECU
  • 2025 — fourth (and final) year of eligibility at Villanova

I mean, good for him, but what are we doing here, pal? I understand wanting to use all of your eligibility, but there’s got to be more to life than just punting and getting a third degree at 33 years old.

Granted, the dude is an academic weapon, but he’s also a grown man. He has 15 years on some of his teammates, which has to be a bit weird for all parties involved.

This situation was brought to my attention by a Villanova alumna, and her assessment of the situation was even harsher than mine. She dubbed him an “automatic pervert” and said he should “go get a job and start a family.”

Is she wrong? In my experience, she rarely is. But no matter how you slice it, the already rancid vibes at Villanova certainly will not be improved by this situation. That I can guarantee.

I doubt any NFL looks are coming his way, so maybe NIL money could be what’s keeping him in the mix. At the same time, I don’t think FCS Villanova is exactly an NIL goldmine. Maybe stacking degrees will actually pay off with a nice job opportunity after graduation.

Either way, he just sounds like the guy in the School Spirit skits on Kanye West’s The College Dropout.

Maybe I’m too much of a hater. At the end of the day, it’s just a lad chasing a dream halfway around the world. I just can’t help myself sometimes.

Very real and legitimate journalist. I don't see a loss on the schedule.
