Eagles, Cowboys drop first injury report before Week 1 showdown

The Eagles are set to kick off their Super Bowl title defense in the most Philly way possible — under the lights, at the Linc, against the Dallas Cowboys. The NFL couldnโ€™t have scripted it better: champs vs. rivals, national stage, season opener. But before the fireworks start, both teams have released their initial injury reports, and thereโ€™s already plenty to dissect.

The biggest name on the list? Landon Dickerson. The veteran guard, a cornerstone of this offensive line, was listed as a DNP with a knee issue suffered during camp. Not what you want to see four days before the Dallas front stroll into town. But without Micah Parsons, the Cowboys defensive line isn’t as big of a threat as it once was.

Behind him, Tanner McKee (thumb) also sat out practice, while Andrew Mukuba (hamstring) and Josh Uche (groin) were limited. The one bit of good news? Jalen Carter was a full go with a shoulder injury. That should ease some concerns about the Birdsโ€™ defensive front, which will need to set the tone early.

Notably, A.J. Brownโ€™s name was nowhere to be found. He had already told fans heโ€™d be ready, and sure enough, the injury report backs him up.

Cowboysโ€™ list not as scary as it looks

Dallas put four names on their opening report. The headliner is Trevon Diggs, who missed most of 2024 with a knee cartilage injury and had surgery this offseason. He practiced fully and told reporters he thinks heโ€™s 75โ€“80% ready to roll Thursday night. Perrion Winfrey (back) was the lone DNP, while rookie tackle Tyler Guyton and tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford were both full participants.

Meanwhile, the Cowboysโ€™ backfield duo of Miles Sanders and Jaydon Blue officially got the all-clear, both absent from the report entirely.

What it means for Thursday night

For the Eagles, the health of Dickerson looms large. If heโ€™s limited or unavailable, it reshuffles the offensive line on a night where the Birds need to keep Jalen Hurts upright. Luckily, this unit is deep, but you never want to mess with continuity up front. On the defensive side, Carter being full-go is massive. The Linc will be shaking if heโ€™s pushing the pocket on Dak Prescott all night.

Dallas has its own question marks, but nothing that seems like a major setback. If Diggs plays, heโ€™ll have his hands full trying to cover a healthy and motivated A.J. Brown.

The opening injury report gives the edge to the Eagles, but nothing ever comes easy when the Cowboys roll into Philly. Buckle up, because Thursday night is going to be a war.
