Ranger Suárez shuts down Brewers, Trea Turner delivers as Phillies win 2-0 in Milwaukee

Ranger Suárez is quietly one of the most reliable arms in baseball, and he showed it again on Thursday. The Phillies closed out their series in Milwaukee with a 2-0 win over the Brewers, thanks to six scoreless innings from Suárez and some timely hitting from Trea Turner and Bryson Stott.

It was a pitchers’ duel most of the afternoon. Freddy Peralta was just as sharp for Milwaukee, striking out eight and giving up only two hits. Neither team scratched a run until the seventh, when Alec Bohm redeemed himself in a big way.

After striking out with the bases loaded earlier, Bohm ripped a triple into the left-field gap. Turner followed with a bloop RBI single that turned out to be the game-winner.

The Brewers tried to push back in the sixth, putting runners on second and third with no outs. Suárez didn’t blink.

He retired the next three batters to slam the door on Milwaukee’s best chance of the day. That’s why he’s The Fightins’ stopper. Suarez continues to be calm, composed, and cold-blooded when the game is on the line.

Bryson Stott added insurance in the ninth with an RBI double, and the bullpen handled the rest. David Robertson, Matt Strahm, and Jhoan Duran each posted clean innings to seal the shutout.

The win gives the Phillies a series victory over the NL Central leaders and keeps the pressure on in the race for playoff seeding. Now, it’s down to Miami for a three-game set with the Marlins starting Friday night.

Ranger set the tone. Turner delivered the clutch hit. Stott iced it. Just another September day where the Phillies reminded everyone they can win tight games against the best in the league.
