Report: Micah Parsons wanted the Eagles and Howie Roseman offered a hefty trade package to get him before he was shipped to Packers

If you ever find yourself in the rare position of having to trade a generational talent like Micah Parsons, the plan should be simple. The main objective is to get the absolute biggest haul possible and reset your franchise for years to come.

A player like Micah Parsons doesn’t come around often, so if you’re forced to move him, you cash in. Jerry Jones had that opportunity. He had the cards in his hand and instead of playing them, he opted to completely ignore Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Diana Russini at The Athletic says the Birds were right there on Parsons’ shortlist when things fell apart with Dallas. According to the report, Parsons had two destinations in mind in the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles.

Green Bay gave him the small-town, Penn State vibes he loved in State College. Philly was the other obvious fit, right down the road from his Harrisburg home, a team built to contend, and a defense that would’ve let him run wild.

Micah Parsons wanted the Eagles or Packers:

Green Bay appealed for its small-town feel, a reminder of his Penn State days in State College. Philadelphia was the other obvious fit, because it’s close to his Harrisburg home. But Dallas wasn’t about to keep him inside the NFC East, even for a better offer (the Eagles have tons of draft ammunition).

The problem? Jerry Jones.

Adam Schefter reported that the Eagles actually picked up the phone after hearing Parsons was on the block. Dallas didn’t even entertain it.

Howie Roseman offered two 1st rounders, 3rd and a 5th for Micah Parsons and was left on read. That’s a king’s ransom. That’s the type of package that could have reshaped the Cowboys’ roster for the next five years, completely ignored.

Jerry Jones might be a senile old goat, but credit him for not being dumb enough to ship his best player to a division rival, even if Philly threw in a truckload of picks. The Birds have ammo for days and literally made a ridiculous offer without mortgaging their future.

Sure, that would’ve meant facing Parsons twice a year in midnight green. That’s the cost of doing business in the NFL.

Great GMs think long-term. They look at the draft capital, the flexibility, and the chance to rebuild a contender after one star leaves. Not Jerry Jones. Unfortunately, he was too busy clinging to the idea of protecting Dallas’ fragile pride.

So Micah Parsons is in Green Bay, calling Lambeau his new home.

For Jerry, maybe it’s PTSD after watching Saquon Barkley come to Philly and immediately help the Eagles win a Super Bowl. Maybe it’s the fear of the Eagles inching closer in the Super Bowl count, but either way, he let fear dictate the decision, and in the process, he made his franchise worse.

The Cowboys didn’t get the best deal on the table because they were scared of their rivals. That’s not America’s Team. That’s cowardice.
