Phillies Marlins Trea Turner 5-4

Otto López homers twice for the Fish, Phillies comeback falls short in 5-4 loss to Miami

The Phillies missed out on the sweep in Miami on Sunday, falling 5-4 to the Marlins in a game that felt like it packed way too much drama for an early September afternoon.

The big story wasn’t just the loss, it was Trea Turner leaving with a hamstring strain in the seventh inning. He reached on a throwing error, but came up gimpy as he hit the bag and went straight to the dugout.

The Phillies said it’s a right hamstring strain and he’ll be evaluated further. With the postseason locked on the horizon, this is the one injury update everyone in Philly will be refreshing nonstop.

As for the game, it was a rocky start for Taijuan Walker. The Marlins sent 10 batters to the plate in the first inning, hanging four runs on him, capped by an Otto López three-run bomb.

To his credit, Walker actually settled down after that, working six full innings without another run, but the damage was already done.

Turner tried to spark a comeback with a solo homer in the sixth, and Brandon Marsh stayed scorching hot with three hits and an RBI. Schwarber added an RBI knock in the ninth to cut it to one, but Bryce Harper grounded out with two on to end it.

López wasn’t done torching Philly, either. He took José Alvarado deep in the seventh for his second homer of the day, which ended up being the difference.

So the Phils leave Miami with two wins out of three, but Sunday leaves a bad taste.

Losing a game is one thing. Losing Trea Turner a nightmare scenario.
