Kyle Brandt takes a shot at Ryan Clark after disrespecting colleague

I didn’t have Kyle Brandt throwing shade at Ryan Clark following NFL week 1 on my bingo card, but here we are. Ryan Clark made headlines last week for all the wrong reasons. During ESPN’s Get Up, the former NFL safety went after his own colleague, Peter Schrager, in one of the most cringe on-air moments you’ll ever see; in my opinion.

The debate was over Cowboys wideout CeeDee Lamb’s Week 1 performance against the Eagles. Schrager made the case that despite Lamb’s drops, he still had a better night than A.J. Brown, who was only targeted once.

Clark wasn’t having it. Instead of simply disagreeing, he went full “locker room tough guy” and belittled Schrager live on air.

Ryan Clark: “That’s the non-player in you”

Here’s where things get fun.

Peter Schrager might not have fired back, but his old Good Morning Football running mate Kyle Brandt sure did. On Sunday, Brandt opened his show with a subtle yet savage jab aimed directly at Clark.

After the backlash, Clark jumped on social media to issue one of those classic “sorry, but not really sorry” apologies. He admitted he shouldn’t have disrespected Schrager, but at this point, I think we all realize this is who Ryan Clark is. He’s always quick to take personal shots when he disagrees, and it’s exhausting at this point.

Look, I get it. You’re supposed to stir the pot when you’re on these peanut-sized brain cable sports talk shows. It’s how they drive engagement and make headlines on social media. That’s all fine and dandy but there’s a difference between sparking debate and trying to make your colleague look small on national television.

My Take: Kyle Brandt Gets It

I’ve said this a million times at this point. I cannot stand when ex-athletes act like only they have the right to talk about sports. It’s the most insecure, cringe thing in the world. If that were the case, none of us would be here doing what we do.

Shoutout to Kyle Brandt for this one. He handled it exactly how I would’ve by calling out the nonsense, keeping it funny, and giving respect to the so-called “non-players” who, let’s be honest, are the ones actually driving sports media forward.
