Furkan Korkmaz wildly disrespects Joel Embiid during postgame press conference for no reason
Former 76er Furkan Korkmaz raised some serious eyebrows during his postgame press conference after Turkey’s win over Poland in EuroBasket. He had high praise for his countryman and Rockets big man Alperen Şengün, but might have gone a bit too far.
Furkan Korkmaz said Şengün is the best center he’s ever played with, including Joel Embiid:

“Until now I thought Joel Embiid was the best big man I played with, but it’s Alperen Şengün now. Defensively and offensively I think he’s a special kid”

I don’t know what the FIBA drug testing policy is, but I think the authorities need to step in and make sure Furk isn’t high off his ass right now. This isn’t even me hating, I just want to make sure he’s not in some kind of trouble.
I like Alperen Şengün as much as the next person; he has a bright future in the NBA. However, comparing him to a former MVP, defensive anchor, and the most efficient scorer the league has ever seen is a massive stretch.
Sure, it’s his fellow countryman, so I understand that you’ve got to support your guys. But there’s a point it goes from effusive praise to straight-up glaze, and he crossed that line as soon as he mentioned Embiid’s name.
