Kyle Schwarber joins Ryan Howard in Phillies’ 50-HR Club
Ryan Howard finally has some company. Kyle Schwarber launched his 50th bomb of the season on Tuesday night, becoming just the second player in Phillies history to hit the half-century mark.
Citizens Bank Park turned into a madhouse, “50 Schwarbombs” flashed across the big screen, and the crowd roared “MVP! MVP!” until Schwarber gave them a curtain call.
The ball traveled 437 feet and dented the pitch clock in center field. It was a vintage Schwarbomb, if you will.
Kyle Schwarber Home Run No. 50
Kyle Schwarber Joins the Legends
Only 34 players in MLB history have ever reached 50 home runs in a season, and Schwarber is now on that list. He’s also the 10th player ever to put up 50 HR, 120 RBI, and double-digit steals in one year. Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, Ken Griffey Jr., Barry Bonds, Aaron Judge… and now Kyle Schwarber.
“Fifty homers in a season,” Rob Thomson told the team afterward. “You’re the 34th person to hit 50 in the history of the [expletive] game.”
“That’s pretty sweet,” Schwarber said, almost under his breath… which was pretty spot on. The guy just slugged his way into baseball immortality and acted like it’s no big deal.
Historic Company in Philly
The Phillies have had plenty of players knocking on the door of the 50 HR Club. Jim Thome hit 47 in 2003, Mike Schmidt hit 48 in 1980, Howard himself had multiple 40+ homer seasons after his 58 in 2006 but no one else had ever crossed 50.
Schwarber, who hit 46 in 2022 and 47 in 2023, finally broke through.
A Season of Schwarbombs
This year has been a highlight reel for Schwarber. A four-homer game against the Braves. An MVP performance at the All-Star Game. A curtain call after a grand slam against the Angels. Now No. 50, with another curtain call to boot.

He leads the NL in homers and RBIs, has matched a career-high in steals, and has become the heart of the Phillies’ clubhouse.
The Phillies toasted Schwarber in the locker room, but everyone knows the real number that matters the real numbers that matter down the stretch.
