The United States of America is reeling from the assassination of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University and now officials have identified the alleged shooter as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson of Utah.

Who is Tyler Robinson?
According to reports, Robinson is 22-years old. He was raised in the Mormon faith and his family exercised their Second Amendment rights throughout his childhood. He briefly attended Utah State University in 2021.
Governor Spencer Cox said Robinson’s father ultimately provided information that helped lead investigators to his arrest, which is obviously a move that couldn’t have been easy but showed immense courage from within the Robinson family.
If you want to discuss his race, political affiliation, and continue to argue about right and left nonsense, that’s not really something I’m interested in doing.
This isn’t a “gotcha” moment. Charlie Kirk was still a tragic victim of political assassination, regardless of who or how it was done. That’s an attack on free speech and a massive blow to our country and civil debate.
The Investigation
According to Cox and law enforcement officials, investigators pieced this together using surveillance footage, interviews, and online communications.
- Robinson was spotted arriving on campus in a gray Dodge Challenger at 8:29 a.m.
- Surveillance shows him in stairwells, crossing a roof, and setting up at a shooting position.
- After the shot, he moved across the roof, jumped down, and fled into a neighborhood.
- His roommate provided Discord messages that referenced retrieving and hiding a rifle.
Authorities later recovered a Mauser bolt-action rifle with a mounted scope, along with spent casings that contained odd engravings.
The Arrest
When Tyler Robinson was taken into custody Friday morning, police said he was wearing clothes consistent with those captured in surveillance images.
Governor Cox added that investigators have “good video footage” of Robinson but aren’t releasing it yet while they continue to process evidence.
What’s Next
Charlie Kirk’s assassination has been condemned across the political spectrum, with leaders in both parties calling it a direct attack on civil society.
Turning Point USA noted that Kirk had faced “thousands” of threats throughout his career but always chose to show up, speak, and engage.
Tyler Robinson is in custody and will face charges, though prosecutors haven’t announced the full slate yet.
Governor Cox put it plainly:
“This is about more than just the tragic death of Charlie Kirk. This is an attack on all of us. An attack on the American experiment. An attack on our ideals.”
