The Clincher: Phillies send Aaron Nola to the mound to deliver the National League East division title

If there’s one guy you want on the mound with the chance to punch a ticket, it’s Aaron Nola. Call him The Clincher, because that’s exactly what he’s been for the Phillies the last three years.

Phillies are one win away from clinching the NL East

He shut the door on the postseason in 2022. He clinched it again in 2023. Last year, Aaron Nola was the one who sealed the NL East and here we are again, with a division crown dangling in front of the Phillies, and it’s Nola back on the hill.

Very fitting.

The track record speaks for itself: in possible clinching games, regular season and playoffs, Nola is 4-1 with a 1.62 ERA. Forty-six strikeouts. Just seven walks.

That’s dominance with the highest stakes.

It’s not always flashy. Sometimes it looks like he’s grinding. When the moment comes, Nola flips the switch. He’s the definition of steady, and his resume in games like today is as good as any pitcher in baseball.
