Eye Test: It took 5 seconds realize the stupidity in the Chiefs scheme to stop the Tush Push so clearly, coordinators aren’t doing their homework
At some point, there has to be accountability. While the entire NFL spent the offseason catering to league offices in attempt to ban the Tush Push, the Philadelphia Eagles were telling everyone that they fully plan on running the play until they are told otherwise.
That sentiment from Nick Sirianni and the Birds was on full display yesterday at Arrowhead, while the media, Chiefs, and anyone with a social media account opted to pick up where they left off last season in complaining about the Tush Push instead of actually figuring out how scheme against it.
Look, I’m not one of those analyst-types that you see all over the internet. I won’t pretend I know shit about anything. I either can see it with my own eyes or I don’t even talk about it. Spots guys have eyes for a reason. If you need to “rewatch tape” and use advanced analytics to breakdown what’s happening right in front of you, seek help.
I say that because when I look at the way the Chiefs lined up against Jalen Hurts and the Eagles offense when they are in Tush Push formation, it’s honestly hilarious. Pair that with the outrage from the broadcast, people on social media, and opposing NFL teams, all while realizing it’s only Week 2 of the NFL season and we have a major problem on our hands.
It’s not an Eagles problem though. I know that much. Again, I know the risk of looking like a complete idiot by posting this but can someone explain to me how this is the proper formation to stop the Tush Push?
Are my eyes deceiving me or are the Chiefs complete idiots?

Maybe I’m over simplifying this but if anyone wants to stop the Tush Push, they are going to need a better formation, no?
The Eagles basically line up with 7 players that can get Jalen Hurts where ever he needs to be to convert the play and yesterday, that happened specifically on the left side of the offensive line.
The Chiefs brilliant idea to stop that was to line up three guys, with a linebacker who’s immediately a non-factor because he’s not low enough to stop anything.
How stupid is that?
Plus, the Chiefs were basically offsides in that formation every time they dared to stop the Tush Push.
Counterpoint: Chiefs were also offsides on every Tush Push Eagles ran in Week 2
It’s mind-boggling that opposing defenses haven’t figured this out yet.
I went straight to my guy Brian Cass with the image above. God willing, he played College Football and knows a hell of a lot more about formations and all that than me. Here’s what he had to stay about the play.
Yeah that formation doesn’t work, bc Hurts just rolls to the left side where there’s less defenders. The defense needs to hit every gap and not be as condensed. The Niners did it to us two years ago and stopped it, and for some reason no one copied it
Here’s the problem with the Tush Push critics.
I feel like everyone spends far too much time debating the legality of the play, whether or not it should be banned, and if the Eagles are jumping offsides when they line up in their signature formation.
Maybe if they focused on actually stopping the Eagles from being so successful every time they run it, they would have more success in stopping it.
I literally just looked at one picture and saw the glaring error in the Chiefs formation yesterday. That tells me that I should either be a Defensive Coordinator. One thing is for sure. There are 31 Defensive Coordinators not focused on what needs to be done to stop it. Shame on them.
