Saquon Barkley Eagles Fined Lowering Helmet Chiefs

Clown Show: NFL fines Saquon Barkley $46,371 for playing football against the Kansas City Chiefs

The NFL loves its “player safety” PR spin, but once again they managed to prove that they are just out there throwing darts when it comes to fines. Saquon Barkley just got slapped with a $46,371 penalty, the single biggest fine handed out in Week 2, for lowering his helmet against the Chiefs.

Saquon Barkley wasn’t even flagged on the play.

So let me get this straight. A guy isn’t penalized during the game, but then a week later the league office decides to comb through the tape like the Zapruder film and hit him with a fine?

I know that the league offices do this but for this one specifically, I mean come on, what an absolute clown show.

We’re talking about a running back. A guy whose entire job is to put his head down, hit the hole, and fight for extra yards. How else is Saquon Barkley supposed to run?

Should he tiptoe through defenders like he’s in a ballet recital? Maybe the NFL can issue him a “safe space” flag he waves before contact.

This wasn’t even a dirty play. Nobody got hurt. Nobody complained. It was just Saquon Barkley playing football the way it’s been played for decades.

Unfortunately, because the NFL is obsessed with optics, they decide to quietly cash in on a ridiculous fine after the fact.

This is what drives players and fans insane.

The league makes billions off the product these guys put on the field, and then they turn around and nickel-and-dime them for doing their jobs. If Saquon Barkley’s play was worth $46k in fines, then half the league’s running backs should be bankrupt by now.

Go ahead and keep crying “player safety” all you want, NFL. The rest of us can see it for what it is. This was nothing more than another way to flex authority and pad the league’s pockets.
