Guardians’ David Fry takes 99mph fastball to the face in scary scene vs. Tigers
It was a scary scene in Cleveland on Tuesday night as the Guardians took on the Tigers. David Fry was at the plate for the Guardians and looked to lay down a bunt, but Tarik Skubal unleashed a wild 99mph fastball directly into his face.
David Fry went down and stayed down, needing to be carted off the field:
Oh my god, I hope David Fry is okay. What a terrible scene in Cleveland. pic.twitter.com/00Kx2JOSYF

Good lord… that is absolutely horrifying stuff. Fry was posted up for the bunt, and Skubal just yanked a 99mph heater right into his mitt. Not good at all.
I’m seeing some comments circulating that Skubal hit Fry on purpose, and that could not be further from the truth. Just look at his reaction when he realizes what happened. That is the look of a man who’s sick to his stomach over it.
Obviously, we wish Fry the best and hope that, despite the horrific scene, he’s more or less okay.
Also, shoutout to Major League Baseball. Maybe the worst thing that’s happened to a player on the field all year, and they can’t even get the headline right. Sure, what occurred was foul, but that’s a heater to the face, man. Tighten up, MLB.
