Ryder Cup Coverage Failure

Not that it mattered for Americans, but the Ryder Cup coverage has been an absolute joke and YouTubeTV is determined to make it even worse

Every two years we circle the Ryder Cup on the calendar, hype ourselves into a frenzy, and then… this. Just when you needed broadcast the most, USA managed to miss tee shots when there are eight balls in play during the early pairings.

The Ryder Cup. Eight golf balls. That’s it. It seems ridiculously easy provide coverage when there’s only a few groups out on the course. Instead, we’re getting commercials, awkward dead air, and sound problems instead of, you know, the actual golf.

This isn’t new. Golf is the worst sport in terms of coverage. The Ryder Cup is supposed to be sacred. We got spotty coverage throughout the early pairings on Friday and I’m shocked no one from the USA Network, Peacock, or NBC figured out a better option ahead of time.

Hell, give us a quad box of the matchups, the Ryder Cup, Red Zone-style, and show every single shot. We were stuck with a stream of commercials and maybe a highlight here or there if we’re lucky. It’s not just frustrating, it’s flat-out stupid.

Somehow, YouTubeTV made it even worse.

Humor me. Why am I paying for a service that flashes their own internal contract negotiation messages across the screen? I do not give a flying fuck about your beef with networks. Leave your paying customers out of it.

These assholes from the USA Network or YouTubeTV (or both) were cutting the feed and when it actually worked, all we got was lags, messed-up sound, and all kinds of issues that completely ruined the morning matchups.

Not like it mattered—the United States got absolutely smoked anyway.

Justin Thomas was a disaster. Russell Henley was a disaster. The only pairing holding their own was Schauffele and Cantlay, who were 2-up through 12. The Henley Disaster-class has him and Scottie DORME with four to play. Its a bloodbath.

Anyways, can these broadcast and streaming networks let us watch the Ryder Cup…?

Run playing-through ads if you have to. Throw a sponsor on a quad box. Do something besides blacking out the most anticipated team event in the sport because somebody needed another Geico commercial in the middle of JT spraying one into the gallery.

It’s atrocious. Some of the worst coverage we’ve ever had. This is bottom of the barrel. We wait two years for this, and somehow it feels like they’re trying to ruin it in real time.

YouTubeTV, USA, and the Americans better figure this shit out. A ton of fresh blood is coming up in the afternoon. Ben Griffin, Cam Young, and company need to go nuclear and claw us back into the mix. Lord save us.
