Nakobe Dean gives a promising injury update, but his role remains uncertain
Eagles linebacker Nakobe Dead finally feels ready to return after a torn patellar tendon knocked him out of the team’s Super Bowl run last season. He spoke to the media on the first day of his practice window, and while he feels ready to play, he knows his role is uncertain with Zack Baun and rookie phenom Jihaad Campbell playing exceptionally well.
Nakobe Dean feels 100% ready to start his practice window at full speed:
Nakobe Dean (knee) said he feels like he's "able to fully go now" on Day 1 of his practice window.

But what will be his role upon his return, with Zack Baun and Jihaad Campbell both playing at a high level? Dean said he's focused on what he can control: pic.twitter.com/f6pGz4DcKb
Classic, professional answer from Nakobe Dean here. Definitely better than pantomiming his responses when something doesn’t go his way, like someone in a certain AFC locker room. Zero surprises here, he’s a standup guy.
In truth, both Dean and the Eagles are in a tough spot here. He had a fantastic season opposite Baun before going down with a brutal injury, but Campbell has fit like a glove in the linebacker spot.
It’d be delusional of Dean not to acknowledge that. But he’s confident enough in his health and abilities to know he can contribute meaningful snaps to an already loaded defense.
Plus, if there’s any defensive coordinator who can figure out how to maximize all three players, it’s Vic Fangio. I’m not saying it’ll be a seamless transition right away, but when Uncle Vic cooks up his Secret Sunday Sauce, the NFL will be in for a rough time whenever they face the Eagles’ defense.
