Union 2025 Supporters Shield Winners

The Philadelphia Union win 2025 MLS Supporters Shield

The Union are back on top of MLS, baby. With a 1-0 win over New York City FC at Subaru Park on Saturday night, Philadelphia clinched the 2025 Supporters’ Shield and didn’t even bother waiting for Decision Day to make it official.

66 points in 33 games. All those “contenders” are mathematically cooked. The Union have the best regular-season record in MLS, home-field advantage in the playoffs, and a shiny new piece of hardware to wave around DELCO.

Mikael Uhre Settles It

The big moment came right before halftime when Mikael Uhre smashed one off a deflection to give Philly the lead. It wasn’t pretty, but who cares? It went in, and that’s all Subaru Park needed.

The closing minutes turned into an anxiety fest. NYCFC’s Máximo Carrizo thought he broke Philly’s hearts with a late equalizer, but the assistant ref’s flag went up for offside. Crisis averted, whistle blows, celebrations explode.

Bradley Carnell’s Redemption Arc

This is Bradley Carnell’s first trophy as head coach, and talk about flipping the script. Dude got canned by St. Louis last season, walked into Philly in January after Jim Curtin’s departure, and has now led the Union to a 20-7-6 record and a trophy.

Not bad for a “non-superstar” coach with a supposedly “non-superstar” roster. While Messi, Müller, and Son grabbed the headlines this year, the Union just quietly bulldozed the league without the glitz.

Up Next for the Union:

The Shield is just step one. Philly already booked their ticket to the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup and locked down Subaru Park as a fortress for the playoffs. Now it’s about chasing the real prize in the MLS Cup.

This is the franchise’s second Supporters’ Shield (the first was in 2020), but unlike that pandemic season, this one came in a year when the league is drowning in star power. The team “without superstars” is the one standing tallest again.
