Sixers bring back Hip Hop as part of 2001 team celebration

The Philadelphia 76ers have continued their rollout of the 2001 black throwback uniforms by bringing back that era’s mascot, the only and only Hip Hop. This is another installment of the 25th Anniversary Celebration for the team that made it all the way to the Finals.

The Sixers announced the return with a video on social media:

We made our own here at TLL, and, quite frankly, I think it has a little more juice. You can judge that for yourself, though.

While I am looking forward to the return of our beloved bunny rabbit, I am nothing but doom and gloom about this team right now. Sure, the 2001 jerseys are cool, and it makes sense to honor that team for its 25th Anniversary, but this just isn’t the time for me to be excited about the franchise.

Another sticking point for me is that they are bringing back Bill Roth, the man who donned the suit from 1998-2011. I think it’s great that he’s getting his due as well, but I can’t help but think about the physical limitations at that age in the mascot game.

Hip Hop is known for his high-flying stunts. Everyone knows this. Hopefully, that same magic can be recaptured. Even if it can’t, though, I’m still happy to have him back.

I’m also anti-Franklin and have always been. I know I’m not alone, either. There are like-minded individuals out there who I know support the cause. We should start some sort of anti-Franklin group with a catchy name.

ANTIFra kind of rolls off the tongue. Let me know what you guys think.

Very real and legitimate journalist. I don't see a loss on the schedule.
