Dave Dombrowski’s press conference makes me think he hates Phillies fans

Dave Dombrowski spoke to the media Thursday following the Phillies disappointing postseason exit at the hands of the Dodgers. Along with confirming the news that manager Rob Thomson will be returning in 2026, Dombrowski announced a one-year extension.

After that, however, he proceeded to share that there will be zero changes to the coaching staff outside of adding a Major League Field Coordinator position. Combine that with comments about Bryce Harper’s future as an elite player, some serious coping about the Dodgers loss, and an assortment of other delusions, this may be the least promising press conference I’ve ever witnessed.

I’ve included the most pertinent lowlights below. Continue reading at your own peril. Compiling these nearly gave me an aneurysm and, quite frankly, I wish it had.

Based on what he had to say, I think Sleepy Dave Dombrowski hates us:

I don’t even know where to start with this, so I’ll just go from the beginning.

First of all, I guess I’m fine with the Major League Field Coordinator position being added. The fact that there’s no changes to the staff whatsoever is what irks me the most. The bats keep going silent in the biggest spots year after year, so Kevin Long was an obvious choice for who to axe. That doesn’t seem to be happening.

Moving onto the comments about Bryce Harper playing at an elite level… Jesus Christ, Dave. This is up there with Doc Rivers saying “I don’t know” when asked if Ben Simmons can be a point guard on a championship winning team. Actually, this is worse because Bryce is here for six more years and you just told your star player you think he’s ass.

I get that he had a bad postseason, but don’t say that outright. Don’t get me wrong, I actually agree with the assessment. Now I have a pit in my stomach.

I’ll combine Johan Rojas with Jose Alvarado for this one. I don’t really want either one on this team. I can take Alvarado, lord knows our bullpen blows, but I’m done with Rojas. We’ve got other prospects to worry about.

I don’t have a tweet for it, but an honorable mention is Otto Kemp being mentioned as a potential everyday player. I want Bohm gone too, but Kemp should never be considered an everyday guy.

Finally, though, the most delusional take is that the Phillies simply “faced the wrong club” in the Dodgers.

Dude. If you want to win a World Series, you have to beat the best teams. I understand the Dodgers’ pitching has been unreal, especially since they seem to have starters pouring out of the bullpen, but the top of this lineup with this payroll should have done more.

I understand wanting to walk the line between telling the truth and pissing off the players, but you’ve found a way to piss Harper off anyway.

We all know it’s tough to face the media after a brutal loss like this, but come in with a plan. This just sounds like a delusional man in denial.

Maybe he’ll prove me wrong and start making some serious moves in the offseason to give this city the roster it deserves, but I doubt it. But I do love being proven wrong!

Very real and legitimate journalist. I don't see a loss on the schedule.
