Eagles Isaiah Rodgers

Viral report says Eagles wanted star CB, he fires back, ‘Don’t Believe Everything You Read’

On Sunday, the Eagles will face a former friend, cornerback Isaiah Rodgers.

Rodgers played a crucial role on last year’s Super Bowl team and many fans, including myself, wanted to bring him back. Given his pretty affordable price tag (2 years, $15M) and the obvious need for a reliable CB2 opposite of Quinyon Mitchell, at least trying to re-sign him made a tone of sense.

Fast forward to Week 7 of the 2025 season, the Eagles are hurting on the backend, rotating Kelee Ringo and Adoree Jackson in at CB2 and hoping one of them plays well enough to not completely blow the game. In hindsight, resigning Rodgers should’ve been a priority. And according to this report from Ed Kracz, it was.

The Eagles reportedly wanted to bring Rodgers back

“Through various conversations, it’s been learned that the Eagles prioritized not only bringing back linebacker Zack Baun, but Rodgers, too.

They got one of two done, but couldn’t reel in Rodgers. On Monday, two days before the start of free agency, it was leaked that Rodgers had agreed to a contract with the Vikings. A two-year, $15 million deal was announced on March 13.

It’s unclear whether Rodgers’ representation ever gave the Eagles a chance to match the offer, but it’s likely the Eagles would have at least matched since $7.5 million per year for two years wasn’t an exorbitant amount even in an offseason where the organization preached fiscal sanity.“

As soon as this story dropped, Rodgers stepped in to clear the air. And by clear the air, he just called it complete bullshit essentially.

If we’re being honest, this was probably just the Birds PR team trying to cover their asses a bit. They know fans are pissed that their cornerback situation sucks and they know they didn’t do anything substantive to replace either Rodgers or Darius Slay, who left to join Pittsburgh.

When you’re winning, like the Eagles did all throughout September, these kinds of things don’t really get the light of day. But after a two-game skid, everything is magnified. That’s how things operate in this city, whether you like it or not.

At the end of the day, this story is just noise. Nothing more, nothing less. It doesn’t change anything. Rodgers is still in Minnesota and the Eagles are still stuck with Ringo and Jackson.
